Podcast with newclevelandradio.net

10 May 2021
MAY THERE BE NO EXCUSES!

Ok Ladies and Gentlemen it is time to share your story, your journey, or your mission in life.  We are not promised tomorrow, but we have today, we are in the present, and on behalf of newclevelandradio.net, I want to invite you to become part of our podcasting family.

Have you thought about starting a podcast but didn’t know where to begin?  Are you motivated enough to invest in the right equipment, software programs, and editing tools to make your podcast stand out?  Sure you can podcast on your Smart Phone and you may have a zillion and one friends but will you reach all of them when you post your link?

I have been podcasting now for over 5 years and recording for another 5 years before that and I am still learning the tricks of the trade.  I have taken over newclevelandradio.net from my son Alex and I have grown the podcasts and listeners exponentially.  When you team with other podcasters you are privy to their friends and contacts and they are privy to yours and together we can be successful.

Our mission is to produce only positive messaging shows.  The majority of us are not experts in our field but we know enough about life experiences to share them and learn from them.  If we touch just one listener we have created a decisive moment for them.  Wouldn’t you like to help someone just by sharing what makes YOU FEEL GOOD?

We are not here to sell products but to share products, ideas, concerns, strategies, and a lot of smiles and laughter along the way.  So it’s your turn and you are welcome to be part of something bigger than any one of us alone…  TRY IT, YOU MIGHT LIKE IT!  (Mikey tried and he liked it – the 70’s Life Cereal Kid!)

LAWRENCE S. KATZ- Author- And So Much More!

I am pleased to introduce you to my guest on Lessons Learned this Friday, February 12, 2021, when my friend Lawrence S. Katz talks BASEBALL

Lawrence S. Katz has written numerous articles about baseball for publications including Sports Collectors Digest, The Baseball Research Journal, and Primo Magazine. He contributed a chapter entitled “When Immortals Returned to the Minors” for The Perfect Game, an anthology published by the Taylor Publishing Company in 1993 and by Barnes & Noble in 1995.

This work is a revised edition of his book Baseball in 1939: The Watershed Season of the National Pastime, published by McFarland and Company in 1995 and 2012.  The book, and his abstract titled “Baseball & Cultural Change in the Late 1930s,” are included in the Baseball Hall of Fame Library collection.

Katz has spoken on a variety of baseball subjects, including Depression Era baseball at the Baseball in Literature and Culture Symposium at Indiana State University, the recent return of minor league baseball to the Detroit area,  and the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League – featured in the movie A League of their Own – at a dinner honoring former player Rose Gacioch.

He realized his dream of appearing on a major league pitching mound before a packed house when he sang the National Anthem with a choral group at Tiger Stadium in Detroit in 1988.

He has been a member of The Society for American Baseball Research since 1983.

Katz received his J.D. from Wayne State University Law School in 1972. He lives in Michigan with his wife, author Karen Tintori Katz.

Kenmore First Friday to ring in the fall season by getting to Akron’s roots

Parking lot show to feature canal songs of Hey Mavis, Madison Cummins, and The Stirs

Sept. 28, 2020 (AKRON, OH) – On Friday, Oct. 2, Laura & Eddie from Americana favorites Hey Mavis will headline a night of Appalachian music from 6 to 9 p.m. in Kenmore Boulevard’s South Alley parking lots, which are accessible via 13th and 15th St.

The duo’s Kenmore First Friday Drive-In Concert appearance comes on the heels of the Knight Foundation’s $4 million grant to convert where the Ohio & Erie Canal enters Akron’s Summit Lake into a 35-acre public park connecting the Kenmore and Summit Lake neighborhoods. Hey Mavis’s most recent album, “Silver Ribbon Dream – Songs & Stories of the Ohio & Erie Canal,” gives listeners a lens into those who lived and worked in the area during the canal’s earliest days.

“This part of Ohio owes much of its early development to the canal,” said Laurie Carner, Hey Mavis’s lead singer and songwriter. “The conditions for canal workers were rough and difficult, but song, music, and camaraderie helped them get through.”

Tina Boyes, executive director of the Kenmore Neighborhood Alliance, said she hopes the concert does the same for her community. “These are lean times, particularly for our local small business owners, and it can be easy to get discouraged,” she explained, “but the music and camaraderie of shows like these give our little music district hope for the future.”

The Hey Mavis duo will be joined by Americana trio The Stirs and Madison Cummins, whose latest release “Antidote” is included in 91.3 FM The Summit’s rotation. Carhop food service will be provided by ThaiSoul Fusion, which recently relocated to Kenmore Boulevard from Romig Road.

A suggested donation of $5 per car will support the ongoing revitalization efforts of Kenmore Neighborhood Alliance. In addition, attendees will get a link to a free download of Hey Mavis’s newest song, “Yes, the Gypsy Music.”

Cars will be parked at least six feet apart, and attendees are welcome to place lawn chairs in their parking spots. In accordance with the Ohio Department of Health guidelines, face coverings are recommended.

Kenmore First Fridays are presented by Kenmore Neighborhood Alliance, the Kenmore Chamber of Commerce, and a variety of generous sponsors. The Oct. 2 event is funded in part by the Friends of Chestnut Ridge Park and Akron Community Foundation. For full event details, visit www.facebook.com/betterkenmore.

Welcome BACK BASEBALL 2020

June 23, 2020

THE DAY THE MLB OWNERS AND TEAMS AGREED TO PLAY!

“Major League Baseball’s owners have approved a restart plan for MLB and, in keeping with the acrimony and suspicion between management and the players we’ve seen for the past three months, sent it as more or less an ultimatum to the players association. But it does mean the sport is coming back.”

I have always enjoyed the game of baseball.  I grew up in Detroit and my introduction to baseball was the Detroit Tigers.  Although we didn’t go to many games back in the day my Father either listened to the game on his AM Radio or we watched in on our Black & White TV.  During my teens, we lived in Minneapolis and I felt like a trader rooting for the Minnesota Twins, but Harmon Killebrew played for them and my dad’s name was Harmon, so became loyal to them only to feel torn when in 1968 we moved back to the home of the Tigers.

During my lifetime, I have lived in cities with other teams such as the Phillies, the Reds, and the Indians!  My first introduction to the Indians was in the late eighties or early nineties when they were still playing at Municipal Stadium.  My husband and I were invited by one of his clients to attend a game and party in a Logue.  Well everyone else partied (assuming the Indians would lose which was their pattern at that time,) I sat and watched the game rooting for the home team.

In 1994 as I traveled for business one night when I called home, my youngest son Alex who as 4 years old at the time informed me he was watching the Oreos on TV and he couldn’t talk to me.  After he hung up on me very abruptly I called back and his father told me that Alex was mesmerized by the baseball game and was intently watching it.  That was the beginning of true love in our home!  Ever since the summer evening, Alex has gravitated and absorbed the game that it is difficult not to enjoy his love for the purity of the sport.

COVID19 has hit us all hard and baseball not starting on time in March has been difficult on many (but it is very apparent here in our home.)  You see Alex always wanted to play baseball and despite the lessons he took and his knowledge of the game past and present, some obstacles (COACHES) stood in his way.  However, his dream has always been to work for the Cleveland Indians.  Two years ago that dream came true and although he is working his way through the system for him it’s not just working because when he is at Progressive Field he feels complete!

However, this horrible virus has meant he is out of work along with many others working for Major League team, however, he plans on returning when the opportunity avails itself.  Now that an agreement has been met he is all smiling because he will at minimum be able to follow his team and the sport he loves.  I too am smiling again because despite being from Detroit, and once rooting for Twins, Phillies, and Reds, my love and devotion go out to the Cleveland Indians.

I don’t want to wish the summer away but I cannot wait till they take the field at the end of July so I can, “Root, Root, Root for MY HOME TEAM.  GO INDIANS!

Entertainment Should be Just That Entertainment (thanks Amy Ferris!)

Dear Hollywood,

How about no more disaster movies or bad reality shows with hosts who become Presidential candidates and decide to march us into hell, how about no more limited TV series that fill folks up with fear & worry & shaking in their boots – keeping humans under the covers for days on end. Please, no more crap about the end of the world and who’s gonna save us – fuck, man, no more of that. Please, no more dreck about millions of folks dying from pandemics and the apocalypse and for the sake of all fuck, no more movies where people are trapped in buildings and elevators and homes and cruise ships for weeks & weeks & weeks on end wishing they could see and touch and hug their loved ones. No more of that shit. No more. No more spending hundreds of millions of dollars on movies and TV series that could be spent on bringing humans joy and love and truth and a few hours of glory and grace into their hearts. There are so many fucking Heroes and SHEroes and Warriors and Goddesses and Mensches and WOmensches in the real world, so many, real ones, humans who put their lives on the line every single fucking day and none of them, not one of them, wears a cape. Those folks are wearing humanity straight out. Make movies about redemption because who the fuck doesn’t need to believe that their mistakes can turn into their mission – who doesn’t need that? Find those folks, make those movies. Make movies about the human condition – folks who scale mountains of rejections and piles of sorrow and make it to the other side and stand up tall and inspire the rest of us that we too can fulfill our dreams. People need to be inspired and encouraged – to believe in beauty and goodness again, to have hope, to find love; folks need to sit in a movie theater – or stare at their massive flat TV screen – and think: holy shit that IS me up there, that IS me. Make movies that fill humans with the belief that they too can change the world not because they need to be SuperHeroes but because they are SuperHearts.

Reality TV gave us trump, dumped him in our living rooms where he was firing folks without even so much a care in the world and look what he’s doing now – the same exact shit except we’re all paying the price of his cruelty and ignorance, and all those disaster movies – look, look… we’re all sitting in our homes wondering who we know who will die next from this horrific unbearable pandemic that is giving us all the heebie fucking jeebies, so how about throwing some compassion & hope our way, some good sexy humor, ROMComs and love stories where yes the people up on the screen are in their 50’s and 60’s and 70’s and the lines on their face are the lines we remember because they are us, how about making movies about the human spirit and the irrefutable magnificent power – the superpower – of humanity.

How about giving us some of that?

Best & warm,
Amy

Check out newclevelandradio.net GROWING in 2020

We have some news to report, and much we are excited to be offering here at newclevelandradio.net

*Beginning next week, we will be rolling out SHERAPY with Sherry Amatenstein, LCSW is an NYC-based psychotherapist and author of The Q&A Dating Book, Love Lessons From Bad Breakups, and The Complete Marriage Counselor (www.marriedfaq.com). She edited the anthology, How Does That Make You Feel: True Confessions From Both Sides of the Therapy Couch. Before becoming a therapist, she spent two years volunteering at a suicide hotline. She was also an interviewer for Steven Spielberg’s USC Shoah, a foundation dedicated to taking audio-visual testimony from Holocaust survivors. She is a former editor at Hearst and ivillage.com, and longtime journalist who has written for, among other publications, The Cut, Hemispheres, Brides, Good Housekeeping, The Week, vox.com, and Washington Post. She runs workshops on defanging your trauma and tapping into your inner strength and has offered advice on Today, CBS, and NPR. When pressed, she admits to having conducted a pre-marriage counseling session on an episode of CMT’s My Big Redneck Wedding.

*In January, Amy Ferris will begin podcasting with us as well, and her first series will be on REDEMPTION with her co-host Teresa Stack.

In getting to know Amy, she is more than an author, editor, screenwriter, and playwright. She is an amazing sister to many as she tells it like it is with words some may choose not to want to hear, but it is time to listen. Amy Ferris understands the human spirit; she has and continues to live it and share it. You will fall in love with this new podcast series as it exemplifies the mission of newclevelandradio.net.  Our mission is to encourage living in a manner that provides you with happiness while not infringing upon the life of another.
Additionally, Teresa was the President of The Nation and continues to write and advocate for what is right and just. This series should be a dynamic conversation and help enlighten and encourage pure awareness and forgiveness for us to heal emotionally and become a fair and robust community.

*Also in January, Michael Gershe, Speaker, author, comedian, advocate against impaired driving. Landscape photography is his passion, as well. As the Founder and Executive director at The Magic of Life Foundation, Michael will share his stories and bring on guests who will discuss what impaired driving means. As the new James Bond trailer states, “No Time to Die,” this should be our time to live!

*2020 is going to be our year as Melinda Smith will be expanding her Heart Mojo Series and adding, “Are You Ready for the Future?” This is not just about estate planning; it is so much more. Let’ s begin planning for where we want to be as we walk/run through this journey of life. Not everyone has a partner, children, or relatives that are part of their inner circle, and it will be up to us, the community to come together to lend a helping hand if needed. Senior life should be the next stage and experience everyone can cherish, but we must prepare for ourselves, our parents, and grandparents. Are you Ready?

*We are in negotiation with Comedy Mike Conley for a bi-weekly comedy show, including helpful hints, tricks and coaching of the trade. Mike and I will encourage other comics, and Open Mic Want to BE’s to join in on the discussion.

*Have you heard of Saul Paul? If not, you need to check him out – He is a musician with a message but more than that he has transformed himself to be the person he wants to be and the person you and I can admire. He has seen tough times and good times, and he is not afraid to speak of them and help guide us. Also, check out his book, “Be the Change: A Story of Transformation.” I admire this man so much. I need to know more, and so will you! We hope to have him join us this coming year.

*Sheila Weller is impressive, and if we are lucky, she will join us as well, bringing us information, discussions, and interviews with and about Iconic Women. Sheila Weller is the best-selling author of a ton of books, most recently: Carrie Fisher, Life On The Edge (a stunning book!), and her very exquisite book: Girls Like Us – which is the definitive book on women in rock n’ roll – Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, Carole King.

  • We will continue to bring you a new version of Care Notes – Doug Wilber and his staff at Cherished Companions have been winners in the Home Health Care Field. We are living in a time when this a vital need for many. Care Notes took a mini hiatus, but we look forward to their return in the new year.
  • What in the World with Paul Seaburn and John DiNallo will continue their weekly gig, this is the only show we currently record on location at Joe Maxx Coffee Company in Brecksville, Ohio. Joe Maxx is the current sponsor of this REAL and STRANGE COMEDY NEWS Show that also includes SPORTS, unlike the way you may have heard sports before.
  • Lyft Diaries with Morgan is a monthly series on the life of a Lyft and Uber Driver. Morgan shares her experiences as well as inviting other drivers to join in her humorous manner of retelling the incidents that may happen in a Lyft or Uber. Dental Works is now sponsoring this show.
  • Katie the CarLady with Coffee is a bi-weekly series on cars (and coffee). Katie has been in the car business for 20+ years, and she is not your average Car Salesperson. The Car Lady treats you like she would want to be treated. She ensures you are educated and engaged in the car purchase, Lease, or maintenance program you may need. If you want to understand how to buy or lease a car, this is the podcast for you. If you want to know how to find the best mechanic to care for your vehicle (remember this is an investment), she will lead you. If you’re going to become more versed in the process and language of car sales well, tune in.
  • The Intentionality Gurus with Candace Pollock continues, and we welcome you to join in. Candace is a personal coach. Each session, she walks me through an exercise, and I have the opportunity to explore what works for me, what doesn’t, and delve into the reason WHY. This podcast is gaining great success; it is not a therapy session; it is about becoming YOU as you understand the dynamics in life and how you choose to view them and respond.

We expand on many of our music interview shows as well, including:

  1. Café Lena Meet the Performers & More
  2. Conversations with Comics with NO COFFEE (Hilarities)
  3. Entertainment Talk with EMPKT
  4. JFTSOI with Gary Moss _ SCRABBLE more than a Game, a Way of life
  5. The Universal Language of Music
  6. Original Music with the Approval 2 Play

Amy Ferris has the Words if only we would listen and live them!

There is so much I wanna say right now, but I’ll keep it short & sweet:

Do your life, do it up, do it big, do it fucking epic; do it with everything you fucking have – everything – it’s your life: love it, cherish it, treasure it, hold it dear and hold it tight, do not let it go.

Make art, create beauty, be messy – messy is so sexy.

Hold another human up, champion another human, support another human, ignite hope in another human; and do not give up on your dreams. Do not. Keep going.

Keep going.

None of us are gonna let you fall.

Have a grand day, people, live & wear your life to the nines.

CAFE LENA lets do it AGAIN!

To my Saratoga and Capital Area Musicians;

It was just three months ago we honored the memory of Charlie Eble and raised money for the new internship program. Well, newclevelandradio.net would like to suggest we do it again and start planning it now. Since that spectacular event in May, I have heard from many of you sharing the comment, you would like to do this again (and again). Charlie has provided us the opportunity to put you all together and share the universal language that kept his toes tapping.

So, I begin by asking Patricia Eble Urell, Joel Moss, Sarah Craig, Jim Mastrianni, and Meg Kelly, are you all in? If so let’s select a date and start planning. It seems like we may have missed out on some musicians that were either out of town or had commitments for the day. The sooner we select a date the easier it will be for the performers to schedule the day.

Some of the comments I have received included starting the event later in the day into the evening. Midday for many is a difficult time to attend, and we could see if it brings more people in. Also if we get it on the Café Lena Calendar early enough we might draw more people including the Concert Window.

I look forward to hearing from all of you, you make me smile!
