The vast majority of adults aged 50 and older (75% to 94%, depending on the specific survey) want to stay in their current homes as they age, yet only about 10% of U.S. homes are considered “aging ready”.

Preferences and Living Situations
  • 93% of U.S. adults aged 65 and older currently live in their own home or apartment.
  • 60% of older adults prefer to remain at home and receive care there if they can no longer live completely independently.
  • Only 18% prefer moving to an assisted living facility, and just 1% prefer a nursing home.
